As Asia's pioneer and largest
I.T.-based education institution in Asia, AMA
Education System is at the forefront in the
delivery of various cutting-edge and quality
academic programs. Through the years, AMA has
invested billions of pesos to provide its students,
faculty and staff with the best and latest array
of I.T. resources unmatched by any other institution
in the country.
Since its establishment in
1980, it has always been the priority of the
System to infuse I.T. in its classrooms, study
halls, libraries and in many areas where students
and teachers converged. IT at AMA is as profound
and brilliant as the ideals of its Chairman
and Founder Dr. Amable R. Aguiluz V.
Computing Resources - Hardware
Computing resources are provided to
students in all of AMA's campuses. Each campus
is equipped with the latest state-of-the-art
computer units (from AMD's Athlon to Intel's
Pentium IV processors), network printers, computer
servers and other IT devices. A standard number
of PC units are available in each of the computer
laboratories and the number is more than sufficient
to accommodate the demanding requirements of
teachers and students.
The ratio of computers to
students is 1:1 and by stringently observing
these numbers, AMA has maintained a consistent
pedagogy and methodology of teaching and learning.
It has aggressively offered new academic courses
by introducing new I.T. tools in teaching and
learning.
There are at least 250 computer
laboratories in the entire AMA Education System.
These computer laboratories are fully interconnected
utilizing the newest CISCO network devices.
Each of the 200 campuses has its own independent
Computer Data Room (CDR) where network connections
are funneled into CISCO routers. Inside the
CDR, the management of the campus IT infrastructure
is carried out and maintained using the highest
IT operating standards. .
In addition, the CDR of the
campus is where server machines are located.
Every campus has a set of machines that contains
all sorts of academic and student information.
It is fully managed using the latest Microsoft
operating system software.
Computing Resources – Software
and Applications
As Microsoft's premiere education partner,
AMA ensures that all software used are authentic
and that it is the latest. From desktop operating
systems to software development tools, Microsoft
has abundantly shared its technologies and resources
to AMA.
The partnership between Microsoft
and AMA has empowered AMA students to learn
and explore the vast fields of knowledge especially
in the areas of computing, software and applications
development, system maintenance, software engineering,
systems analysis and in many other areas of
computer science and I.T. Today, this partnership
is instrumental in bringing thousands of IT
professionals into the country’s work
force. Importantly, the alliance has delivered
highly-skilled Filipino IT workers to the world’s
arena of commerce, manufacturing, engineering,
medicine, and in many areas where I.T. is indispensable.
AMA is also first among education
institutions that acquired and adopted as part
of its learning environment several computer-based
and web-based teaching (CBT/WBT) tools. One
of the major directions made by AMA in this
area is the forging of partnership with the
Boston Group – developers of IntraLearn.
IntraLearn
The learning environment in AMA is
made even more remarkable with the introduction
of IntraLearn – a web-based learning management
system acquired from the United States. It is
designed to provide students easy and convenient
access to AMA’s extensive chest of digital
learning resources. It is in this Portal that
students learn to expand their knowledge horizon
and embrace new teachings delivered through
digital formats. IntraLearn is also instrumental
in allowing students, faculty, and experts to
come together and discuss ideas that challenge
both the learners and teachers. Using the Portal,
AMA is bullish in surpassing the limits of traditional
learning and in providing its students a revolutionary
way of learning.
Network and Internet Access
Internet access is also granted to
all students. Each student is given an internet
account allowing them to browse the internet
and explore its full potentials- from surfing
to downloading of files. AMA’s DS3 Internet
connection (45Mbps) and Internet rooms provide
students the opportunity to access the Internet
and explore the world wide web. In addition,
AMA has its Data Center located at its Head
Office in Panay to manage and maintain the interconnection
to and from campuses. The AMA Data Center houses
an arsenal of computer servers and workstations
that maintain the integrity, reliability and
efficiency of the entire AMA IT infrastructure.
Highly-Skilled and Professional IT Organization
The IT infrastructure in each of the
campuses of AMA is managed by a team of computer
engineers, technicians and software experts.
A local IT Department is assigned in each of
the campuses. The campus IT Department is responsible
in ensuring that all IT services are delivered
to students, faculty members and staff. With
the presence of highly-skilled and professional
IT staff in the campuses, students are well
taken cared of and all of their IT requirements
are provided as fast as they need it. As students
enjoy the many IT perks available in the campus,
AMA’s IT staff provides all the technical
help that the students need.
AMA relies on the efficiency
of its IT workforce to deliver quality products
and services. The strength of AMA in diffusing
IT in its classrooms, laboratories and offices
is anchored on its dynamic, efficient and hardworking
IT organization.
Empowerment Through I.T.
AMA believes that student and teacher
empowerment is best achieved through the facets
of information technology. It has long recognized
the strategic importance of IT in its organization
and in the way the institution delivers services
and products to its clientele – the students.
It is therefore not surprising that AMA is unrelentingly
pursuing the endless boundaries of information
technology.
Education and technology
will always be the corporate signature of AMA.
