Defined as a machine that looks
like a human being and performs various complex
acts such as walking or talking, robots have fascinated
humans since they first appeared on television
and in the movies.
Robotics, or the study of robots, focuses on re-programmable,
multifunctional manipulation designed to move
materials, parts, tools, or specialized devices
through various programmed motions for the performance
of a variety of tasks.
Although fictional, movies like Robocop, A.I.
(Artificial Intelligence), and Star Wars have
captured so much interest and awe that humans
ceaselessly pursue to study Robotics, magnify
its potentials and perfect its creation.
Advancements in Robotics will soon give way to
super intelligent, creative, emotionally complex
cyberbeings.
Out of this fascination for intelligent machines,
more and more youth today display interest in
the study of Robotics and a desire to have a career
in this field that is now making waves in advanced
science and high technology.
The AMA Robotics Program
In response to this burgeoning interest and in
its unwavering commitment to further advance the
skills and competency of the Filipino youth, the
AMA Education System, the first and largest ICT-based
education provider in Asia, has created the AMA
Robotics Program.
Another first in the Philippines, the AMA Robotics
Program focuses on technology integrating precision
mechanical engineering with electronics and computers/information
technology leading to the design and implementation
of intelligent machines and processes.
AMA has upgraded its degree programs in selected
Engineering and Computer courses to integrate
the study of Robotics in the existing curricula.
With this, students can choose Robotics as a major
field of study when they enroll in any of the
following courses: BS Computer Science, BS Information
Technology, BS Computer Engineering and BS Electronics
and Communications Engineering.
The AMA Robotics Program is currently being offered
in all 50 AMA campuses nationwide.
Partnership with industry leader
AMA has partnered with FESTO, Inc., the Philippine
subsidiary company of FESTO AG Germany, the leading
supplier of industrial automation components worldwide
in its pursuit of developing intense university
degree programs on Robotics.
Robotics laboratories are set-up in AMA campuses
to aid students in grasping the theories and applications
of robotic intelligence. They house state-of-the-art
facilities from FESTO, complete library and reference
materials and the most advanced simulation softwares.
These laboratories give students the most advanced
hands-on training on automation and automated
problem-solving and programming.
Career opportunities
With the combined efforts
of AMA and FESTO, Robotics students are assured
of world-class quality education, intensive training
and endless employment opportunities, locally
or abroad.
A myriad of career
options awaits graduates of a degree in Robotics:
Sales Engineers, Design Engineers, Technical Officers,
Production Engineers, Production/Maintenance Supervisors,
Assistant Engineers, Process/Automation Engineers,
Electro Mechanical or Data Acquisition Engineers,
Plant/Project Engineers, Computer Systems Analysts,
and many others.
Aside from the
guaranteed boost and upgrade in competency and
competitiveness of the Filipino workforce, the
advent of the Robotics Program in the country
is also expected to be a revolutionary contribution
to its industrial and economic components.
